Welcome to The Grill at the Gas Light. Built in 1837, this building is the former home of the city’s first utility, the Portsmouth Gas Light Co.
FOOD & DRINK
We offer a variety of traditional pub items, such as homemade clam chowder, wood-fire grilled burgers and chicken sandwiches. Our entrees include grilled chicken pasta and lobster stuffed haddock. We offer locally brewed draft beer and a boutique style wine selection, as well as national favorites. Join us Wednesday nights for 50% off bottled wine.
Saying that Newcomer's creations are marvelous is an understatement. Their design and coloring are reminiscent of the real McCoys. He's carved marlin, tuna, bluefish and whales, and now he's doing trout, redfish, snook and mackerel. Often, it's conversation around the waterfront that inspires him to carve. Newcomer carves his creations from mill slabs. He finds the raw materials from mills throughout the northeastern states.
“Gas Light is one of my favorite restaurants in Portsmouth because of the atmosphere. All of the employees are great, the food is great, and in the summer I recommend sitting outside on the deck. Overall, I recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Portsmouth!” – Trip Advisor, 5 stars
